The food tour provides an overview of the history, origin and methods of production of different traditional Tuscan and Italian foods and of their role in the daily Florentine diet, through guided tastings in artisanal gourmet shops in town and at the local food market.
Guests will receive suggestions and recommendations for local restaurants and shops where they will be able to find high quality produce and whose customers are mainly locals. The main idea of the tour is to give an internal perspective on how food is perceived, lived and interpreted by Florentines and to discover where they choose to shop and eat, thereby avoiding the tourist traps that unfortunately are so numerous!
The food tour may consist of tastings of typical pastries, artisanal cheeses and cold cuts, focaccia and other baked goods, extravirgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, truffles, different kinds of wine, and artisanal gelato and chocolate. All the tastings take place in small, historical gourmet shops in the city center with a special focus on the origin of ingredients and sustainable methods of production.
A tour lasts approx 3 hours and usually runs in the morning (when the market is open); however it is also possible to schedule the tour in the afternoon upon request.
The tour can be adapted to the client’s preferences, specific needs and dietary requirements.
